Fishing tools

The rotary fishing taps are the simplest fishing tools available for engaging a tubular fish internally if it is restrained from rotation. The fishing tap is a one-piece construction conical wedge furnished with a case hardened fine thread. Internal watercourse and longitudinal flutes are on the threaded cone permitting limited circulation should the fish be plugged. In engaging the fish the tap works as a threading tool and the flutes eliminate the cuttings. The fishing taps are available in two types - skirt type with an external thread at the lower end of necks for assembling a skirt - and plain type without a skirt thread. The tool is normally furnished with a box up connection. The fishing tap is a non-releasable tool and should normally be run below a safety joint in order to have a positive release mechanism from the fish.

After make it up to the end of fishing string:
- run the fishing tap in the hole to the top of the fish
- apply a shallow weight (less than 1 MPa )
- rotate slowly the fishing string to embed the tapered threads of the tap into the fish
- apply a medium torque to provide proper hold
- cease rotation and let torque out of the string
- pull the fish
- the fishing taps are furnished either with right-hand or left-hand threads and connections in a complete line of sizes, lengths and connections.
