Overshots

The overshots are the simplest fishing tools for engaging a tubular fish externally. They are useful in back-off operations where its solid body offers high torsinal strength. The overshot is a solid one-piece construction furnished with a fine case hardened thread on its shallow tapered inner circumference. Four or six longitudinal flutes are machined across the internal wickers permitting elimination of cuttings when the hardened threads being embed in the fish. The tool is normally furnished with a box up connection. The rotary overshot is a non-releasable tool and should normally be run below a safety joint in order to have positive release mechanism from the fish.

After make it up to the end of fishing string:
- run to rotary overshot into the hole to top of the fish
- apply a shallow weight (less than 1 MPa)
- rotate slowly the fishing string to embed the tapered threads of the overshot in the fish
- apply a medium torque to provide proper hold
- cease rotation, let torque out of the string
- pull the fish

The rotary overshots are available in a complete line of sizes, lengths and connections. They are furnished either with right-hand or left-hand threads and connections.
